The basis of my work lies in the unraveling of the tightly and intricately woven layers that each of us has created as part of our human condition. As we explore and expose each layer we experience the discovery of our true nature. There is an inspiring, cathartic, and sometimes healing process that is initiated as we participate in the unraveling…ultimately facilitating the discovery of that which lives cloaked by these layers: the truth beneath the surface. The artist’s task is to seek this truth and give it a voice through their art. My inspiration lies in this pursuit of truth and the unraveling of the layers that mask it.
Through this pursuit, the concepts of descent, passages, and transcendence reign prevalent in all of my work. Having experienced life so deeply, so intensely, and in most cases in such extreme ways, my connection to each aspect of the human experience, as well as the mystical path, has developed into the intention and ultimately the expression of my art’s voice.
It is the energy of each of these moments of discovery and enlightenment that I aim to capture. Therefore, the scene that develops around it is secondary to that energy, it is the body in which the feeling and emotion is held. Rather than depict an emotion, the emotion is manifested and captured thorough expression of the body’s message.
As we unravel, we reveal, and are liberated from, the chains that we have been held in. Unraveled, we are free. The aesthetic experience provides a portal to understanding that process. The art exemplifies the voice of the individual within.
